Day 31 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

On this last day of love for the elderly, I think we should appreciate the care takers of the elderly. I'm talking about nurses, CNAs, personal care takers, home care workers, and everybody who helps the elderly. So today you should bring some love to the care takers! <3

I hope you enjoyed the 31 Days of love for the elderly! I had a lot of fun finding new ideas each and every day although some posts were put up late. ;) Thanks for reading and come back and vist my blog again soon!

Day 30 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Today I think it would be a really fun idea if you buy large print, word searches, crossword puzzles, and decks of cards to donate to a local nursing home. :) I have done this before at the nursing home my sister works at and they were so grateful! :)

Day 29 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Have you ever made a blanket? Do you want to make something easier (smaller)? Do you want to make a lap blanket for your favorite Elder? You could sew fabric together or go even easier and buy fleece and make a tie lap blanket. Whoever you this for (maybe a bunch of nursing home residents!), they will be pleased and happy. It will keep him or her warm too. :)

Day 28 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

What about making no-skid socks for the elderly by putting puffy paint on the bottom of regular socks? I think it sounds like a lot of fun, easy to make, fun to make, and keeps your loved ones safe on slippery floors at home or at the hospital. :)

Day 27 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Today I encourage you to bring some healthy treats to an older person you know. Health is important especially at that age. So try and be helpful by bringing bananas. wheat thins, granola bars, etc. Sound good? :)

Day 26 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

A lot of senior citizens who still can, do read. So I thought it would be fun to make a bookmark for someone you know that reads a lot! I found a few cute ideas on Pinterest so I bet you could too! :) BE creative and have fun.

Day 25 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Today I ask you that you buy a stuffed animal or a stuffed doll for someone with Alzheimer's Disease. You can buy one at the dollar store for very cheap and it is super easy and fun! :)

Day 24 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

If you are at the store and  you see an elderly person trying to carry everything, go over and help. (Well actually even they are not older, you should still help. :)) You could also help them load their groceries into the car. That is it for today! :) Go help!

Day 23 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Do you like to cook? Then today I have a project for you. How about if you make a meal for someone older, whether they are homebound or moving around, they will gratefully appreciate a meal! :) If you don't want/like to cook, get involved with "Meals on Wheels". Thank you! Like I always say, You find ideas on Pinterest! :)

Day 22 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Have you ever made a chain or banner out of paper? If you haven't before, you should make one now. If you have before, make another! :) They are super easy to make and if you hang them in a loved ones room, they will look at it every single day and smile and remember you. :) Look on Pinterest for ideas if you need help! Have fun!

Day 21 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Do you make handmade greeting cards? I know a lot of people who do. Or how about, do you sew? Or crochet? Today I want you to use your talents and gifts God has blessed you with to serve and bless the elderly! Make and send a card, crochet a scarf for those who get cold, sew a neck warmer for one who gets pain in the neck. God gives everyone gifts and talents. Find them and do what what God called you to with them. Serve others. Especially the elderly.

Day 20 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Today, take a look at your life. *Pause... Good? Okay now, think of your life with no friends, no family, just nurses and doctors. Is that your life?? Well the sad truth is, that there are many people out there who have no one. That being said, is there something you want to do to help? Glad you asked! ;) Cause there is!!! You can bring sunshine and smiles by making a Sunshine Basket! Get a yellow container and fill it up yellow things! Such as, lemonheads, peanut M&Ms, yellow notebooks, pens, bath loofas, etc. For more ideas, check Pinterest and my blog here. Have fun!! :)

Day 19 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Today I have great idea for you if you have a baby and/or a dog (a nice and gentle dog). Older adults it nursing homes will visiting with you especially if you have a baby! :) When you call to let them know you will be coming in, see if dogs are allowed. They will only be allowed in certain places. But babies are very much accepted anywhere! :) (including my house. I'll take your babies! ;)) It will make residents smile and laugh. You want that right?

Day 18 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

I found THIS idea on kindercraze.com to make coffee filter flowers. What a fun and easy idea!! You can make some, and then bring them to your local nursing home. They will very much enjoy them. You could even gather some friends up and have a flower making party! Have fun and be creative!

Day 17 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

One of my wonderful friends gave me this wonderful idea! :) She said give the elderly love hand and foot massages!! So if you don't mind touching peoples feet, you have a challenge to complete! :)

Day 16 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Do you like painted nails and doing hair? Do you like spending time with the elderly? Then here's what you need to do. Schedule a time at your local nursing home or if you have an older lady loved one and go paint their nails and/or do their hair! :) A lot of ladies enjoy having their nails painted and for those who can't do it themselves, the nurses don't have time usually to do it either. That's where you come in. Need help? Try searching ideas online or on pinterest. (pinterest always help) :)

Day 15 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Does your loved one use a walker? Do they need somewhere to put stuff? Do you sew? Then today is for! I challenge you to sew a walker bag that hangs on the front of their walker for them to use. There are many free patterns online including on Pinterest! (where I find everything :)) Get creative and go big!! Want to take it a step further??? Make a bunch for your local nursing home! I did something similar for our nursing home a little bit a go! Check it out HERE. I hope you have fun even if you don't decide to make a walker bag. :)

Day 14 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Wow It is only day 14 and I'm running out of ideas LOL!! :) But wait a minute..... Okay got one!

Day 13 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

What would you do if your elderly loved one got in a car accident? Would you drive them around now so that never happens? I certainly would! So for today, go pick up you loved one and bring them shopping for items they need, maybe they have an appointment, or just go out and have some fun! Keep them safe! <3

Day 12 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Bring a gift of something they can use. Like body wash or lotion. A lot of older adults have try skin, so lotion can really help. My sister works in a nursing home and she said body wash is a nice gift because when they are showed they have to use the nursing homes boring stuff. But if they have their own body wash, they like it better. :) Also maybe a bath loofa for seniors who can wash themselves. there are really so many options out there. But if you know who you are giving your gift too, it will help you know what they need, like, or appreciate! :)

Day 11 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

One word, Smile. Everybody loves to get smiles. When someone smiles at you, you become happy, and you feel good inside and out. So lets say someone is older and feels isolated or depressed and you smile at him/her, how do you think that person is going to feel? "Amazing" right? Well, most of the elderly feel depressed or isolated. So do you want to go change that? I do! So simple solution, go smile and love some elders!! :)

Day 10 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

If you are creative, you are going to love todays challenge! :) I want you to find a happy quote online or make your own, frame it, and give it!! :) Nursing home residents can set it on their side table and smile everyday because of it. The same goes for everyone else! What do you think?

Day 9 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Today I was babysitting and one little guy was making a picture with stickers which gave me an idea. If you have kids, grandkids, or you know young kids, have them make a picture or card to send or bring to grandma or grandpa, an elderly neighbor, a nursing home resident, or a someone older you know! Your child will love making something for someone else and your recipient will love it even more! Have fun! <3

Day 8 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

I challenge you to interview someone older. Whether it be your grandmother or a nursing home resident, ask them questions! Be sincere. Listen. And learn. Most older adults will LOVE telling you about their childhood and youth years. Ask about how they met their partner (if it applies), ask them about high school, ask about something they did that now look back on and laugh. There are SO many questions you can ask with SO many more answers you can receive. Be creative and interested. Bonus points if you type up all the answers and make sorta like a "life journal" :) Go and serve to our generation's oldest and wisest.

Day 6 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Today I think it would be nice just to send a card of love. :) Just get a nice card (I have some available for you to buy ;)) and write a nice message and send it off to someone who could use a bit of sunshine and happiness!! I have sent a couple of cards to my grandmother and she just LOVES getting them!! And she sometimes sends me thank you cards just for sending her a card. :) Never underestimate the power of a simple thinking of you card.

Day 5 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Yesterday was my birthday. Yesterday I went to go color and spend time with residents at my local nursing home! :) I wasn't able to take pictures of the residents, but I can tell you we had a great time! It was so sweet to talk and color with residents. The lady I was sitting with, every time I told her her picture looked nice she got a huge smile on her face which made me realize I need to do this more. ;) The nurses and CNAs were so sweet to us and helped us get everyone sitting down to color. I totally recommend you go do anything involving the elderly. Most are SO sweet and fun to be with! The reason I am posting this on the 6th for the 5th  is because it was my birthday and my family was so good at making feel special I didn't have time to get on and post. So I am posting now! :) Have a great day and go get a time to visit your local nursing home!!

Day 4 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Today, July Fourth, I want to encourage you to spend time with your family. Have a cookout, picnic, or even just go see fireworks. Anything you do with loved ones is going to make them happy. So just spend time with the elderly. You could also go to a nursing home to spend time with residents. Some residents don't have family. So maybe having a visitor will make them happy. :) I am going tomorrow to spend time with nursing home residents so stay tuned for tomorrow! :)

Day 3 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

For day three of the challenge, I think it would be fun to bring flowers to someone. May it be a elderly neighbor, a friend, or someone in a nursing home, it will bring a smile to their faces! Because flowers are pretty, flowers are colorful, and flowers smell amazing. You may have to spend a couple extra bucks on this one but it is worth it let me tell you when you see their faces! :)

Day 2 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

Today, I just want you to give someone a hug. Hugs can mean more than you intend them to. Give a hug to someone who needs one! :) I gave a hug to my grandma tonight. It made her smile. :)

Day 1 of 31 Days of Love for the Elderly

For the first day of this new challenge, I want you to send a "Finish the story" to an older adult. I found this idea on DoSomething.org So here's how to do it. :) Write the beginning of a story and leave it hanging. Then mail it to an older adult you know and ask them to finish writing the story and then mail it back to you! It gives them something fun to do, makes them smile, and helps you complete this challenge!! :) To help you even more, here is a story starter for your use.

" Bobby's legs were so sore! Never, ever, EVER again would he run 3 miles he swore in exhaustion. Bobby lugged his body over to the deep blue couch and flopped down feeling like he could never get up again. Even if the president knocked on the door to give him 2 billion dollars, he wouldn't be able to move even a muscle. But, just as Bobby was drifting off to sleep, he heard a knock at the door...."

31 Days of Love for the Elderly!!

Hey All!! For the month of July, I am going to post a new way every day how to help and love the elderly, senior citizens, and nursing home residents in and around your life. :) Sound like a plan? Okay good. I hope you will come every day to see a new way to help decrease isolation and depression in older adults. It is going to fun changing the world! <3
